Dull blade
I just received a marvelous 200-year-old stubtail. The blade is large and absolutely clean. There is no rust, no pitting, no nicks in the blade. However, it is dull. I have tried honing it, but, so far, with no effect. Do I need to just hone it until it is sharp, or is there another technique needed?
Thank you!

what stones did you use?
You have to make sure the bevel is set before you move on to higher grits.

Well... I'm no expert, but before you get to "honing" you have to set the bevel, otherwise methinks it will take you forever.
If I were you I'd hit the wiki and do a search.
Best of luck,
Marcos

It would really help to have clear pics of spine & edge or we are just guessing... other than the basic principle of needing to set the bevel.
You could send it out for honing & not risk devaluing a mint 200 year old razor by potential honing mistakes or look for someone local to advise you.

Send it out for pro honing.

How do you set the bevel?

Definitely have to agree with the Oz-man's advice here.

Do you mean about setting the bevel?

Pictures, pics, pr0n, digital representations...the best diagnosis is interpersonal, but as much info as possible will help.

Unfortunately, I do not own a digital camera. It is a wedge blade, large and heavy. It really is a beautiful blade, and I am somewhat uncomfortable sending it out.
