Magic Marker Test - Did I use few strokes on wet or dry stone? I know, maybe is stupid question, but, I want to know...
I think if the magic marker resists breakdown in water a wet stone is best if the stone in questioned is intended to be used wet.
Stones are Naniwa's.
I'd say you should always use your stones wet, whatever the make.
I missed something previous to this - could someone give me a link to magic marker tests?
I don't know if their is a link, but to conduct a magic marker test all you have to do is take a sharpie and make a line along the entire length of the edge. Make a couple of strokes, no more than three is usually needed, on your stone. Stone should not have any slurry on it. If you still see marker on the edge under a bright light after a few strokes on the hone, the bevel is not set and you need to continue honing.
We use this test to show if you have re-set the bevel on the lower grit stones around 1K.
