I'm really confused right now. Just bought a Robeson Shuredge and decided to hone it tonight. The razor is dead straight with no warp and small, even hone wear. I just tried setting the bevel. Did arm hair test and first swipe it popped arm hairs like no other razor I've hone. Flipped the razor and tried the other side. Dull as a butter knife. How can it be sharp one side and not the other? Any suggestions will help.
The bevel doesn't cut, the edge does. I think the edge is OK. Arm hair testing is variable. Try to shave with it.
Just did a quick pyramid and the edge came in. Thank you Ace. It just weirded me out when it wouldn't cut any hair on the one side. Usually my razors are popping hair on both sides before moving on. Guess I just needed some kind of assurance.
In all likelihood you accidentally raised a burr, or wire edge on one side of the blade. Further honing, with the pyramid removed it.
my guess is one of the bevels is not well established.
Try magic marker trick, or use magnification to figure out if that is the problem.
In any case I'd try series of 20 circles and 10 x-strokes , until the razor cuts arm hair on both sides
Looking back it probably was a wire edge. The Robeson has an odd grind and I was probably using a bit more pressure than I should have been using to set the bevel.Quote:
