    nun2sharp my lowest grit is the naniwa 1000 grit. Would this be suitable for the job? I attached some pictures I took so hopefully this helps. They are cell phone pics and it looks more rounded than the pictures show Name:  photo 1.JPG

    From those pics, it looks like you'd have to take off metal well into the heel. Personally I'd leave it as is.

    When honing a square/spike point, you need to keep the blade perfectly flat on the hone until your honing stroke comes to a complete stop. If you lift/twist/roll the blade while it is still in motion, you will probably begin to round the point.

    This would be a good "point" to keep in mind.....
