Thanked: 1Thanks pinklather, still need some work but the more I take my time and be patient with it the better the results.
nun2sharp my lowest grit is the naniwa 1000 grit. Would this be suitable for the job? I attached some pictures I took so hopefully this helps. They are cell phone pics and it looks more rounded than the pictures show

From those pics, it looks like you'd have to take off metal well into the heel. Personally I'd leave it as is.

Thanked: 522When honing a square/spike point, you need to keep the blade perfectly flat on the hone until your honing stroke comes to a complete stop. If you lift/twist/roll the blade while it is still in motion, you will probably begin to round the point.
This would be a good "point" to keep in mind.....
