Do you clean your nat after honing

OR LEAVE THE SLURRY TO DRY??
Just wondering about this...

I always clean them off under running water, JNats, synths or whichever stone I use.

+1 I always clean my stones after use.

I clean the stones as well.

I don't if I just do a quick touch up, but after I hone one or more razors, I use my DMT 325 8 X 3" stone to level and clean both sides of my Norton 8K/3K stone.
Then I air dry the Norton until bone dry to the touch.

Yep...I clean it.

the OP is talking about natural stones if I am not mistaken.

I definitely wash mine. I would figure that along with the dried slurry, there would also be swarf to some degree that could be detrimental to the edge the next time you hone on it.

I rinse mine under the faucet while rubbing it with my hand.

+1. I have read of guys who leave the slurry for next time but I figure the metal is there too. It has to go somewhere. I rinse and hit them with a nylon bristle brush for good measure. Something else I do, that I learned from a j-nat website, is avoid touching the honing surface with my fingers. The same oils we condition are strops with in palm rubbing are present and they won't do the hones any good. At least not the waterstones. I handle them by the edges.

I always rinse every stone after using it. I also rinse each blade well after coming off a stone before moving to the next stone.

I am absolutely anal about that. One of the reasons I bought single grit norton 4 & 8 rather than the combo.

I think I have made history by starting this thread...

Like Birnando, I clean my hones with tap water. Generally I hold the hone upside-down over the sink and lift water in a cupped hand to it so that the swarf rinses away with gravity. Seems less messy that way, too.
