My first "real" attempt at honing- let the criticism fly!

No arguments from me on any of that. Except that in some cases polishing a knife will absolutely affect cutting performance (this is something I have quantified and analyzed in depth for competition cutting purposes).

I have proven also that employing very keen knife honing skills to a straight razor, will often result in exceptionally harsh shaves:D

I agree.
When I said polishing knife I did not mean going to the highest grits , toothier edges cut better than the super polished ones, unlike the case of straight razors. Frankly for me the best polishes come from JNats, the bevels look super and the toothiness is still there.

As already stated the "Look" of the bevel is not so important

Ignoring the bevel and looking at the edge, I think it you do you some good to look at the other Micrographs on here and compare only the look at the edge..
Usually you will find a bright straight line, try and block out the scratches and look only at the edge, this can help your honing if you use the info correctly.


BTW the pic I am looking at that brought out the comment was the 4th one from the bottom that it looks as though you are labeling as the N12k SS

EXACTLY what I was about to say.

Pics are good, but you should focus your eyes on the cutting edge...this is the only thing that does any work. The shiny & smooth "sides" are great to look at I will admit under magnifications, but mean nothing.

The shave will tell you if you did a good job honing or not, nothing else matters.

Wow "I do not shave test for sanitary reasons", I guess that explains the " is my edge shave ready looking at the pics?"

It is my listing- based on your responses you don't approve? Why is that, may I ask? I'll shave with my razors and they do very good job but that doesn't mean I want to shave with your razor or that you want to shave with mine. Before you start being offensive, why don't you find out if there is a reason to be? My guess would be ego and a lack of maturity.
