I also use the reflection to see if the bevel is coming in evenly across the length of the blade, and looking down on top of the edge if I can no longer see the edge of the bevel, then I start the TNT and TPT tests and go by feel from there. It was a great piece of advice to give me a visual judge when I first began honing myself, so thanks much ace!
