I have started using my lapping stone (like a norton) as a plinth for my hone when I am honing. I spray it with water, wrap it in a cloth and spray that too, then hone on it. I do this because it absorbs water without drawing water from the hone I'm using too much, thus preventing the mess I'm used to making lol. Was wondering if anybody else thought of this, or does it?
I just put a folded up old chamois under my stones when I hone. It works very well for me.
I use a paper towel. I do set one stone on top of another sometimes just for the height. Especially with slip stones.
Sounds like a lot of work.
I just use the box/stand that comes with the stone. Then wipe excess water with a paper towel when done.

It sounds like a lot of work ... but when you hone 15 razors at a time it really pays dividends :)
I use natural stones so I don't have hone stands unfortunately.
I like the chamois leather idea ... never thought of that thanks.
