trouble honing

was starting to pull my hair out why i couldn't hone this dovo razor.

with a norton 4/8k and loads of different lapping film.


anyway after a quick look online then check of my razor.


yes its warped no wonder ive been having trouble.


any tips to hone a warped razor? (by warped i mean if i put on a flat surface tip and heel touch it but not middle)

ill grab my set sqaure from work to double check.


im not just talking about the spine either, its the cutting edge too

I recently had a similar issue with a new razor I was working on. Concerned about the unevenness of the bevel, I emailed my friend Stefan here who explained the situation to me. The blade may not be evenly ground or over ground in some areas. As he put it, if the over grind is near the edge you may be able to correct it some by honing without tape on the spine. After you strip off enough metal on the spine the geometry will begin to correct itself and the edge will come more into alignment. If you are using tape on the spine, you may have to remove it and allow the hone to adjust it some. I’m far from an expert on honing so lets hope more opinions roll in on this matter.

If I were you what I would do is send the razor in question to one of the more practiced honemeisters on this site to correct the spine problems your are aparantly having and once done, then the next time the razor needs a touch up or complete bevel re-set you can do it without any added agravation, which I"m certain you like me don't need!!!

i think ill keep it for practise at honing.

i have 2 others that have had the bevel set by neil and im very happy with them.


might send it off eventually but not atm

Looks like a small frown. The stabilyzer at the heel is getting in your way. Search "fixing a frown" and see what comes up. The short answer is that the stabilyzer is gonna have to be reprofiled, and lot of time spent bringing the edge back in line. I wouldn't choose this blade as my first, tenth, or 100th blade to learn on. It's nothing too serious, but it will take a lot of time to fix, even if you were experienced.
