New razor, uneven bevel.
Brand new to honing, I understand the common advice is to send it to a pro, but I would really prefer to home my own blades. + working on the college budget.
This razor was given to me by a dear friend, tried to research but came up empty handed so I have no idea what quality it is. Brand: Omor blade says 1200 Messerschmidt made in Pakistan..
Been working with a norton 4k/8k using a slurry to try and set the bevel. Everything seems to come out very uneven. There was also some very uneven ware on the blade so I attempted bread knifing it, then started the process all over. After many many hours this is where it stands Attachment 118151
Attachment 118161
I feel I have yet to set a proper bevel with all the circles, and x strokes. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Sorry but it is very unlikely you will get that blade sharp. Even for a professional it is no good. Pakistani blades are known for their inferior steel. Plus it looks like it has a frown on it. This is not a blade you even want to attempt your first hone (or any hone) on.

If you do attempt to buy one avoid these.

+1 to what has been said. Working on a budget for start up can be done pretty easily. Just have to do your research. For a start you can go to whippeddog.com and get a razor for a good price already honed. If you want to try to go your own way you can troll local antique stores for a vintage blade at a good price but if you don't know what a good razor is you may get burned with one wit a lot of problems. You can also try the classifieds here for a good blade at a decent price.

There are 2 manufacturer's known as "Omor" out there; one is Solingen-made (I have one), and the other is Pakistani. Unfortunately yours is the latter :(
+1 on whippeddog.com. They can get you into a much more decent straight for $25.00.

Yeah I am looking at purchasing another currently, currently I have only the norton 4k/8k stone, planning on getting a dmt 325 shortly. Looking at whipped dog for the strop. Is it worth going for the Rich man or poor man strop off the bat? I am looking at purchasing the s.r. Droescher blue diamond razor in the classifieds. Would that be ok for a newbie?
