An then did you shave with it kimosabe?
Feels good don't it!
Bravo, Nighthawk. I was on top of the world when I got my first shaveable edge. Savor it. It'll get even better!
Congrats! But then.... What (razor)? and... How (hone(s) & technique)?
I still don't get it. I've been trying to hone this stupid thing forever it seems. I took the advice to grab an old beater (not too bad) and practice. Started at 1k, then 4, 8 16. Stropped the begeez out of it and no good so started again etc etc
Thanks! I don't have an edelweiss, but my Boker is one of my favorite shavers. I can't get my head around going back and forth from high grit to low, but there are a lot of people who get happy results with pyramids.
Poss, razors need the begeez to work right! ;) Just kidding. I've been there too. It can be really frustrating. I discovered two different problems. First, I was doing way too much, honing and stropping. Second, my stropping technique needed work. Interestingly, my honing technique hasn't changed at all (that I can discern). But I'm doing less of it and find the results are there, and I'm stropping less. I think I was honing too much and stropping too much and as I got frustrated my techniques would deteriorate.
Take a break. Then double check your hones are lapped properly. Then watch some honing videos and see if it doesn't inspire you. Then try again. If you're not inspired you'll just set yourself up for frustration.
Sometimes we have to walk away so we can come back later with a fresh slate.
Peace,
Jim
Thanks Jim, sounds like some good advice
