Most have been on the 1k perfect rolling x strokes for easy 200'on each side.. Fails the TNT and won't cut arm hair so I remember reading that Lynn said u can use the pyramid if the bevel isn't perfect but makes the pyramid more efficient so did the pyramid 20 although way down ... Strop 3 on diamond paste about 100 strokes on leather strop,.. Still not popping hair .. TNT a lil better .. Now what.. 6/8 blade just says s Carroll on it :banghead:
If the blade was restored (sanded, buffer etc) that's not that uncommon.
After I sand down a blade, I can do probably 300 circles on a heavier grind trying to get a bevel.
Even after that, there are still probably 100 x strokes that progress from 'firm' pressure all the way
up to no pressure.
Keep at it, and try to avoid the temptation to move on before the bevel is perfect. You'll be rewarded
in the end!

OK, well first thing is to just take a break for a while. Step away, go do something you enjoy for an hour or so, preferably something physical but really it is up to you - just get away from the hones and get your head into something else.
It seems to me that 200 strokes on each side is a lot for a 1K hone. How often do you stop and check the edge? If I were you I would do so every 10 returns. If you are using the tnt, make sure it is wet and remember that sometimes you have to repeat it a couple of times (or at least I do). Also remember it damages the edge, so a few more strokes after a successful tnt is necessary before moving up to the next grit. I am sure you know this, but with the tnt you are looking for a consistent "bite" all the way along the edge as you draw it through the wet nail from heel to toe. It should be fairly hard to pull the razor through the nail.
Next thing is you say you are doing rolling X strokes? They are hard to master in a consistent way. Are you absolutely sure you are nailing that technique? Have you tried putting magic marker along the bevels to see how your stroke is removing metal? If not, that would be a good idea.
DO NOT use the TNT at any point after a 4K hone. If you diamond pasted on a strop and then TNTed your edge, you ruined the edge. The TNT is quite a destructive test and should be used very sparingly only on the bevel setting stages, IMO. If you want a test at the finishing stages, try an armhair "waft" or perhaps, if you can get it to work for you, the thumb *pad* test. I've never cracked that one myself, but I know others who swear by it. Just keep that edge away from your nail at higher grits.

If you're doing a pyramid STOP doing the TNT. The TNT is for bevel setting only (~1k), and even then you should do some additional laps to counteract the damage caused. Try to rely on the TPT and shaving test instead.

Get 1 or 2 of your razors shave ready; put the hones away for a week or three, take a little break from the honing. Everybody needs a little break in their honing journey, from time to time. :shrug:

I think I may just go back to the 1k again mayb and keep going mayb just x strokes until shaves arm hair then conservative pyramid.. I'm worried about honing too much..

i have never had luck with the pyramid !! probably cause i had no experience doing it when i first tried , but where i personally have excelled is with the circle method for bevel setting !! and then x strokes ext .. there is a video on here somewhere also where you can see it performed .. this is what ive based my honing off of and have altered it here and there but im getting good results for me ...Quote:
