Should I give up?

Hi everybody. I "rent" razors so I can practice my honing. I never know what I'm going to get and most of the time they are in bad shape but this one is really bad. It has "pitting" through out the edge, some parts are worse than others. I've been doing circles for awhile on my Naniwa SS 1k but there is still some pitting. Should I use my DMT 325 and keep grinding away until I hit good steel (hopefully)? or should I pass on this one? Here is a pic but I think you guys won't be able to see it.

I just had one like that and I say give it up. It looks like the rust holes from either side are probably past the center line of the blade near the edge, so you'd have to go pretty far up into a much thicker area to have a clear center. . . and maybe never get there. There are better things to do with your time.

I have a huge, beautifully shaped 17/16 Wostenholm which is revealing heavy pitting as I hone it. I've given up on it. As I look at the bevel sides, it is clear that there are many more pits waiting to be brought into the edge. Some day I might give it a go on 1K, but it looks like the blade is doomed to me. It's been sitting in my drawer for months, and I can always find something more worthwhile putting the effort into. I've given up for now.

As a a rule I don't waste my time on pitted edges with anything finer than 320 grit & tape is a good idea at that point also. 5-10 minutes will reveal any future for the razor .
