Thread: What to do after pyramid

Hi.
I'm a newbie to honing. I just got a Norton 4/8k stone. Using a pyramid starting at 25/25 I was able to pass the shave test with one of my razors. Finished with 1 and .5 micron diamond paste.

I tried another razor that I picked up at an antique store and did the same routine but the razor still pulled and didn't cut some hairs in rough spots. I have a couple of razors that were professionally honed so I know what a sharp razor feels like.

My question is where do I start from here. Do I start the pyramid all over or is there another way to get to where I want to be.

I would suggest doing another shorter pyramid starting with 15 and work down and test again. I've had 'em to where I had to go back a few times to dial them in. If you have a microscope or eye loupe double check your bevel and make sure it is consistent as well.
