Materials→ Hand Sander free out of the garage, a 9×4" cut pc of granite from lowes $5, some gorilla glue free and of course some 220 grit wet/dry $6. Works like a charm for lapping and easy on the wallet too ;-).

This is one of those things that seems SOOOO rock-stupid-simple that it's almost like everyone should know how do it, but no one does till they see the picture and a simple description. Good job sir!

What are you doing with the G glue? is the pad on the sanding block flexible foam? have you done a pencil grid on the stone?
You have a ridged stone,you need a ridged plate with an abrasive to make it flat.

Negative sir...I glued the handsander to the back side of the granite slab...I then take the 220 grit and wrap it around to the clips holding the paper in place. Its just like using a piece of granite with the sandpaper on top except with a little more control to lap with and its easier to quickly grab to do touch up laps between hones.. Works fantasticly well and the paper doesn't curl up and round off the edges. Either way just thought it was a neat tool to lap with without spending a lot of $$$.
I guess it depends on how you value money VS time and how much lapping you do. If I had been going through sandpaper instead of using a DMT all this time, there is no question I'd have spent more money and time. But if you have the materials on hand and are handy and aren't lapping all that much, this seems like a great solution.
As with everything else on this forum, it's all about what works for you.
I'm actually thinking about gluing a DMT onto a sanding block like that, just for the handle.
In my youth I was forced to make things that work out of necessity. Now that I am older and can afford thinks I want/need I find myself doing things just to see if I can. This is a great example of a know how, and doing it yourself, a lost art in todays time. Kudos, for the great idea and workmanship as that I have some extra rock from a project I did a few years ago, I now have a great use for it

[I] love my dmt for lapping and always lap under running water. For the 50 bucks IMO its worth it. Theres a million ways to skin a cat though.
