    Default Gokumyo 20k

Just received my Gokumyo 20000 hone from Stu today. I am not the most experienced honer in the world but thanks to Gssixgun and his videos, I can get a pretty nice edge off a norton 8K. I have not had very good luck following up with a Naniwa 12K finisher. Tried the Gokumyo 20K today with 20X strokes after the 8K and WOW!!!! What an edge. It shaved with a smoothness that I have only experienced with a pro honing my razor with a coticule. I am delighted with this finishing hone and it seems easy for me to get the finished edge I had always attempted to achieve.

I got mine yesterday. I tried a kamisori with a so-so edge on it and the result was exceptional.

This hone is a definite keeper.

Sounds like a cool hone. What kinds of blades are you guys honing on it? Conventional wisdom says that New York steel would be superb coming off such fine hones, and that English steel wouldn't support such a fine edge. Anyone out there checking up on the conventional wisdom?

I honed two razors this evening. One was a W/B Medium. The other was a King Cutter.
Both shave tested smooth as silk.

I have had mine since Feburary and I have used it to finish a Keen Kutter, a Boker red Injun 101, a puma high class, an engels ,a Henckels and a Le Grelot, all with great results. If I recall correctly, the Le Grelot was made with Sheffield still.

Try this Rick. Tools from Japan

Just about every razor I have finished on the 20k has shaved very nicely. A few times I have had to go back to the 8k and redo the edge, then again to the 12k or 16k on to the 20k. No complaints from this corner.

there is so much difference compared to Naniwa 12k to justify the price?
after the naniwa 12k i use strop linen and after lether,i have a great result....so you got me a great curiosity
i have seen that the hone have grain 0.5um ,....would not be more convenient to use a paste (0.5) at this point?
