Kamisoris and pressure

This question relates to one of Glen's videos but I'd appreciate input from any of you experienced Kamisori users. Glen shows a downward and upward action and I assume the amount of pressure is much the same as you would use on a straight i.e. slightly more at bevel seeting and virtually nil after that. My first question is does the amount of pressure differ on the downward as opposed to upward strokes?

Secondly, the upward stroke is equivalent to back-honing which I thought was only used for getting rid of a wire edge - so why is it seen as acceptable or necessary on a Kamisori?

The pressure shifts from the edge to the spine,,,

Also keep in mind that all these videos are simply a "Guide" they are actually the easiest way I know of to do things, they are not the end all be all and should not be taken as such..

As to why it is recommended on Kamisori I could only guess that it is because of the Asymmetrical bevel,

Funny that this just popped on the forum as I just finished using that exact razor this morning before coming into town :p

Rob I probably should have filmed this Henkotsu I am honing right now, I am about ready to hang upside down and try and see if that works to get the bevel correct again :p

I have so far used every trick, angle, count and anything else I can to even this puppy up, I just finally got it to pop, so I thought about this thread and needed to step away for a few minutes... :) Figured writing about how some are just a PITA to get right would let me unwind from this one..

The finger pressure is a good way of focusing the honing on the edge rather than further up where the iron laminate is very soft & as you are doing most work on one side why not go back & forth ? That's my WAG. All single bevel J/tools are honed similarly.

thanks a lot for the video(s).
I am currently waiting for a used Iwasaki kamisory that I bought. From the description, it might have issues with the edge... will see.

So this was great for getting an idea.

Again, Glen's videos save a day and my first Kamisori!
