Any Kansas City area folks who can help out?

I'm out here in KC for family stuff, and I'm traveling with 4 razors. Just accidentally scraped the edge of one (the Heljestrand :banghead: ), and I've picked up a few more to boot (eBay, not local). Some quality rock-bothering time is required.

Anyone in the area who'd be willing to let me use their hones? I can get on with pretty much anything if you tell me the particulars. It'd be nice to have 4k/8k ish and a finisher.

I'm also not traveling with any electrical tape, which is vital to my mental wellbeing when I hone.

Traveling a little to get to wherever you're at is no problem, and when I get back home in Californialand, I'll find something cool to send as a thank-you. :)

Not yet! And I just got a bag full of razors too.

How long are you going to be in KC? The Mid-Mo meet is in 2 weeks at Lynn's place. Just a short drive across Missouri. There will probably be a hone or 2 available.

If all goes well with what I'm doing, I should be headed home by then. If not, I am fully planning on trying to attend. :)

But between now and then, it'd be nice to be able to shave with my Helje again!

You might get lucky in your travels looking in some antique stores and find a nice little barber hone. Don't leave home without one.
Might even find a strop.

If I'd been using my thinking brain, I would've either brought my old Thurignian barber's hone with me or picked up the Frictionite I saw in an antique store on the way out.

I've got two extra strops in the back of the car, though. :D (Including an awesome Keen Kutter one with an embossed brass medallion at the top, where it'll no doubt cheerfully take little nibbles from the occasional razor).

I am an hour (maybe an hour and fifteen all said an done) West of downtown KC in Top city - Topeka. I have Nani's, and a couple Helje's that could use some love themselves.

If driving that far is worth it to you... I could spare you an hour or so.

Some of my business is going to take me out to Olathe, but looking at the map I see that's not precisely more convenient than where I'm at (Gladstone-ish, I forget how many bazillion weird city boundaries there are out here).

If I don't get any nearer offers, I'll likely be PM'ing you. Not only do I want to shave with my Helje again, I *REALLY* want to shave with those Magnum Bonums!

UPDATE: All is well, Zack came over at 6pm we had some great conversation, he got to use some different hones than he was accustomed to, and some knew techniques. the Helje is back to snuff. Zack should post some pics of those beautiful monsters he has they will knock your eyes out. He just left a little after 9pm KC time. The guy could and should write a book on razor history.

I got several generous offers, but Kelly was the one that got to put up with my poor mistreated Heljestrand and unending stream of quasi-related blather about every damn thing a razor has ever done.

I had a really great time, got to use his excellent pile of hones and can now shave with one of the two Magnum Bonums which took an awesome edge. The other needed more love than I had time for since I'd left my poor wife across town with no dinner.

So how went the shave with the Bonum? You bring it over, taunt me with it, use my stones and then no follow up. What kind of friend are you? ;)

I've been hip-deep in house mold and thousands of boxes of stuff. I just had my second shave with the Magnum Bonum. I find that old ones like that, especially the meaty ones, often don't really settle down until I've shaved with'em a few times, and this one is no different.

The first shave was a bit harsh but very clean, the second was much, much smoother and a little closer. I expect the third will be close to perfect. It takes a bit of learning to use a razor that big & heavy!

The Helje shaves like a Helje should, now. :)

Also really digging your strop! It works way better than my usual travel strop!

JUst as things should be! Nothing like a great shave!
