Many things but this is the first that pops into my head.

It is a status symbol embellished to highlight the owners wealth, rank or wisdom.

There is one thing you can bet on 32t,,,, Birnando & Stefan may be carrying their Queen Bee as an EDC, but you can bet there is at least one Worker Bee on them too,,,,:hmmm:
Hell, I bet Stefan carries a whole hive of Worker Bees on him,,,:D

I searched more than one individual that had a beautiful custom blade on him & the next question I asked was, "Where's your working knife?"
I'd say 7 out of 10 had another knife on them.

While I agree, the two aren't completely contrary. A Rolex still keeps time and an expensive knife still cuts. Function and status in one can't be all bad.

Lots of people carry customs in the 500-1000 USD range as EDC and use them.
Lots of people keep their expensive knives as safe queens. I think it depends on the person, but I am not sure many are carrying expensive knives to show off as most people have no clue about those things.

I do not own super expensive knives such as customs because I do not think they offer anything more than a reasoanbly priced production pieces such as a ZT for example. I carry one knife at a time and am not afraid to use it when needed, all my knives are users.

The fact that you carry only one knife,,, as much as you love them,,, does surprise me.

I usually don't need more than one at a time.
When I am out with my bag, then that is a different story, I have 3 on me usually.

I carry two everyday,,, my Blurr(working blade) & my Opinel (steak/food only).
I keep a 1K on my Blurr & a 4K on my Opinel.

Kershaw is coming out with 3 new automatics in 154CM, very very smooth looking knives. I have never owned an automatic, but one of those is in my future.
