Mostly likely this knife is post 1921 to the present day, from the Issaaki Jarvenpaa factory in Kauhava Finland. The markings on the blade are from the worker who made the knife. Unfortunately, the book I use as a source does not identify the markings from individual workers, like custom knives do these days.
It's a classic for sure. Nice job on the restoration.
Here's a pic of my pukko (say that 10 times fast!). Not really restored beyond utility. Love this knife!
Very nice puukkos you have. The steath looks very unique so i think it isn't meant to wear on a daily use - rather in some special events.
The markings on the blade must be either from the one who made the blade or the one who owned the knife.
Here's few of our knives:
On top there's a Leuku of Lapland. Have it on the everyday use, mostly when chopping a 'kiehiset' (sort of a fire ladder, maybe) into wood i'm burning in the fireplace.
Second leuku, slight larger, belonged to my grandfather. He carried it on the bad years 1939-1945.
On the bottom there's Marttiini Ilves (Lynx). Blade restored, new handle. The steath isn't original, but from some other unnamed knife. Very useful tool for carving and for everyday tool at the garage, gardening, work etc.
The little tiny Marttiini on the right belongs to my wife. She uses it for handicrafts etc.
Nice collection. That old leuku has taken on some lovely character.
Did you know of the upcoming knife show in Helsinki in January?
I usually try to avoid going to Helsinki. Far too big metropol for me with the traffics and crowds. However knife show would be one to consider. Thanks for note.Quote:
