A follow up on my intro.

After my last post that was more or less left hanging I figured I'd follow up on what I've been up to. I skipped out on the Norton 4k/8k hone after reading some bad reviews on them and went for a 6k King stone and used my Hen and Rooster as a potential sacrificial test subject. Following honing lessons found here and on youtube from who else but members here I honed the wannabe razor followed by pasted stropping using fine buffing compound followed by leather stropping with cowhide I use to make handgun holsters and sheaths with. I got to the point of snapping hairs with a nice ping to it and gave it a test shave. As expected it won't hold an edge so no surprise there but it served its purpose.
The Oxford I spoke about has a bit of hone wear on spine but nothing I couldn't compensate for,the edge was so dull I had to use a 1k grit stone prior to the 6k and then the paste and final stropping. The first shave was ok,I could have done better,I didn't strop it enough and had a bit of tugging. I spent more time on the strop and sure enough my second shave was excellent even if my technique lead to a few nicks. My third stropping and shave was even smoother and just one nick from a bad angle and the 4th shave was just plain awesome,no nicks,no razor burn just smooth.

Now I'm toying with the idea of a 12k stone and possibly some finer diamond strop paste or spray just to try out and I've been bidding on more razors,I missed out on a very nice shave ready JR Torrey.My father in law grew up in and around Worcester Mass and I knew had I won it he'd be impressed and have more stories of his past to share. Anyhow now I'm hooked and this was supposed to save me money not cost more,my wife was right I never stop at just one of anything I get into.
