New to this forum. Expecting my first straight razor later this week possibly. Have been shaving with a DE for not quite a year, and thought I'd explore the straight if I ever work up the nerve.
I have already found lots of useful information here and look forward to seeing what I can learn.

Welcome aboard! It's a great group of people here. If you haven't gotten to it yet, I highly recommend checking out the wiki. TONS of good info there.
The older I get the more I realize how little I actually know.

Hi and welcome. Reading up before you start helps with the learning curve. Main things to try for are angle and pressure. Good luck
My wife calls me......... Can you just use Ed

I actually didn't have to purchase one. Lucked up on a Torrey from a pay it forward thread. I think the guy is on here as well...

Welcome to a great group of helpful folks. My advice: go for it. SR shaving is a zen thing for me. It slows me down and makes a choir a delight. Yeah - there are cuts (in my case, slashings) in the learning curve - but hang in there. It gets better.

Welcome. I took the DE route to straight shaving as you did. Some of the skills acquired DE shaving will help you, but there is a long learning curve ahead of you. Don't let this discourage you at all. Every 10 or so shaves, your skill level will increase. See the link for "your first straight shave" in the Wiki links, and follow the advice given. I was a knuckle head, and always insisted on shaving my entire face with the straight during my initial learning curve. Keep your old DE around, use your straight on the "easy" parts of your face and finish up with the DE. Good luck and most of all, enjoy.
