Hello everyone. I'm new to the forum and new to wet shaving. I have been using a disposable straight razor system for about six months now. With the new year approaching i want to upgrade to a full wet shaving/straight razor routine.
Can anyone tell me what websites are reputable to purchase items? Razor, Brush, Shave soap, and after shave balms you recommend. If there are any Southern california stores that i can actually visit to see good/great quality products.

Straight Razor Designs has some starter kits that you can upgrade as far as you like.
You can even pick the model razor for the kit + you get a certificate for a free honing which is a nice touch as you learn to strop.

as far as a brush Silvertip badger is what i want. But as far as vendors and brands I dont know who i should trust. And i dont have a lot of money to experiment with a bunch or brands.

You can call Lynn or Don at SRD (Straight Razor Design) and they can and will walk you through every thing.
The SRD strop is built so you can easily replace and or upgrade the material which they sell at a very reasonable price point.
So you could start with Latigo and later after you were comfortable could upgrade it to an English Bridle or Roo if you choose, although there is nothing wrong with the Latigo.
Dovo makes a good quality implement and the base line models are very affordable.
My advice, based on my own experience and hours of reading on this site and others are: #1 -- Buy from a reputable vendor (all who advertise on SRP fit that description); #2 -- buy a solid shave ready razor -- THE most important part of the equation! # 3 buy in your own price range (the difference between a $25 brush and a $200 brush, and much the same is true of razors..$100 to $1000, -- if you stick to #1 -- are as related to the sexiness and value of materials as the ability to lather -- or shave); # 3 -- get a good quality soap or cream (and be done for less than $10 or you can spend $40) and follow the wiki posts and videos here on SRP to learn shave prep, razor prep (stropping) and shaving technique. #4 -- Take your time. # 5 Stay away from honing for a while. It can come later.
This whole chain of skills/arts takes time, but it is fun and it is worth it in satisfaction and "face happiness".
Once you have your kit then your next best step is to get together with other wet shavers in your area. It will shorten your learning curve a lot and you meet some pretty good people.

I would love to meet other wet shavers. I just convinced my cousin to try it and he ordered a kit on amazon
