Just an update. I made a hanging strop that I like much better. Just one strip of leather. I do wish it was a bit longer, but for now it'll do. I'm not great at stropping it yet, but I seem to be very slowly improving.

Couple of observations. I think I may like a solid handle razor better than a folding one. Haven't used one, but I far prefer holding my razor straight than the seemingly preferred method of having the handle folded up with index, middle finger and thumb pinching the grip and ring finger on the hook. I still don't like my lather. Thinking about buying a proraso or tabac cake. Worried about scent though. I'm not a fan of heavy cologne. Or any cologne really.

So now that I have been using a straight, I see them everywhere. Antique stores, flea markets, craigslist, etc. Is there any re-sale market for these things beyond our relatively small group on here? Maybe a pro honer that might trade a razor or two to sharpen a couple for me?

I'm thinking seriously about hitting my head in the next day or two with the straight. I've been shaving my head or near to it for the last 13 years or so. Only ever used fancy cartridge razors. In the last few years I have decreased frequency a ton due to cost. If I can master shaving it with a straight without ruining my edge, I may get back to shaving it every couple days or so. I have also considered a feather straight, but figure it wouldn't save me money buying another razor and those blades for years.

Anyway, that is my progress report
