I really want to try striaght shaving i presently de shaving and am looking to change over

I would suggest to watch the videos on u tube on the subject. there is a lot of helpful information there. it is easier to watch the experienced men and listen to what they say than to try to type all that info her. if you are completely new to straight I would suggest to start out slow. don't get in a rush. go slow and enjoy and learn. again there is a lot of helpful info out there on the computer. welcome to the SRP . it may seem overwhelming at first but to those who stay with it it's great. anyway give it a try.

The only thing I would add to watching the videos is to not make the mistake I did. Buy your SR from a place like SRD that offers truly shave ready razors. Welcome to the forum.

Straight razor designs has some good razors and there shave ready when you get them. they also offer a re hone when you need it free if you buy the razor from them. also if they are out of the one you like ck out the classified here. there are many different vendors so don't get discouraged there seems to be a shortage world wide on some new razors. just make sure that when you do get you first that it is from a reputable place and it is shave ready. good luck

Welcome... I agree with videos, watch and learn but don't get to cought up withem. I gifted my little brother his first straight razor after shaving with a DE and he has loved the change, challenge and exsperiance. It's a art that looks like it's coming full circle again, so jump on board my friend. Take alook at the classifieds as well, some great straights on the page. Good luck and good shaves

Hey Josh, where are you located in this short-but-wide state? I switched to DE on my birthday 2012 and by 2013 was well into SR shaving (slippery stubbly slope). Don't expect a great close shave for the first few months. ALWAYS switch back to your DE when you concentration wanes. NO RUSH. I think that DE shaving helps one learn wet-shaving proper and the lightness of touch needed for SR. Before I tried the DE I had been shaving for 20+ (don't make me count) years and had never razor-burned myself or had a nick. DE learned me fast how to do (and not do) that. Worst razor burn ever was that first DE shave, none since.

The biggest difference to me is the skin stretching. A DE comb or bar "stretches" skin for you, whereas you must manually contort/stretch/pull/puff your skin straight for the real razor. Neatest trick i learned from a video was "tongue in cheek" smoothing of the areas around the corners of the mouth. Looks dangerous, but it's not. Best of luck.
