    Default Good Morning

My name is Q. I'm 37 and have, as of this post, never used a straight razor. I've had a shave at the barber. Which was wonderful. He told me to seek out a forum for useful information. He also said I have an unruly beard that grows every which direction. I already knew that.

Regardless, Hello. I'll be chatting with y'all soon.

Welcome. It's really not that hard, but it does take a bit of practice to be good at it. Any information you need can be found here. The library tabs is a good start.

Welcome, glad you found your way here! Be sure to read up on gear before making any purchases. Many people have gotten burnt trying to purchase low cost items, only to find they are low cost for a reason.

    Welcome to the forum.
If you still have questionnaires after reading the library( and chances are you will), just ask them and every one here will be glad to help you.
Don't try to go to fast and it will be ok.

    Many happy shaves!
    Sometimes I feel normal.
Then it's time to lay down and wait for it to pass.

Welcome to the forum Q. There is one thing you must NOT skimp on, and that is how many razors you collect.

    Hi Q,

I'm just starting out too! I've used a straight razor (SR) three times. Following our fearless leader's advice, I started out slow and only shaved the easier parts if my face first. It wasn't until the third shave (today) that I did my whole beard. What a thrill and senses of accomplishment!

SR shaving is demanding a lot of patience on my part. Like the Senior Members have said, take it slow. Seek out competent advice and equipment. This adventure will be what you make of it.

I'm having a blast. I did start out with a DE (double-edged safety razor) however. That allowed me to buy things like shaving cream (or soap), badger brush, cup, etc., first; which allowed for time to continue to learn all I could about the SR and wet shave lifestyle and gave me a chance to experience and learn the proper way to prep and lather up for a wet shave! So I spent mere $65-$75 to enjoy a great wet shave before I made larger investment on a straight razor.

All that to say, since I've started in Feb, to date I've spent about $700 on SR equipment and supplies! Whoa! You don't have to do that as a beginner though to enjoy this activity.

I'm in it for the long haul!

    Enjoy the thrill brother!
