Howdy!
Hello friends, my name is Peter, i'm 27 and from Portugal (Madeira) and I'm just getting into straight shaving
I just got my first brush today (not counting the cheap supermarket I had before lol), it's a Semogue Boar SOC, still waiting for my razor though (Dovo Astrale) Good thing about it is that I have plenty of time to read before even touching it hehe
Any tips are greatly appreciated!
Best regards to all of you!

Thanked: 1184Welcome :<0) I hope your razor comes honed by a pro and I didn't see mention of a strop. You sound like a patient guy so this will serve you well when learning to use your new straight. Just go slow and pay attention to what works. If you can find a member close to you, a hands on visit is worth 1 month of reading.

I forgot to mention the strop, it is on it's way as well. I am more concerned about the honing though =/ I don't even know anyone who shaves with a SR, let alone hone it. Is it possible to get a couple of weeks worth of shavings with stropping since it is supposedly "shave ready" ?

Thanked: 8Hello Peter and welcome to the SR Nation!
While you are awaiting for your SR equipment, you might want to consider to begin shaving with a double edged safety razor, unless you were already doing it. Using a DE would help your skin become ready for a SR impact among many other benefits. it was one of the best advices that I received before I started using straights almost three years ago.
And beware about two main "frenemies" RAD and HAD (razor and hone acquisition disorders) ! They are pricy, but a LOT of FUN!
Regards,
AG

Thanked: 1184The library is a great place to start reading. Pay close attention to the stropping section.

Hi and welcome. As long as the razor is pro honed and not factory shave ready you should be fine.
Go slow and steady and keep the pressure light. Happy shavingMy wife calls me......... Can you just use Ed

Welcome to SRP, Peter! Keep researching beginner information here on the forum. And, make sure your blade is shave-ready before diving in. You should be good to go. Enjoy!
