Hello,
My name is Dan and have been a hobbyist knife maker for 24 years. The idea of DYI and not having to buy replacement items all the time (re-using things as much as possible) has always appealed to me. So you can see why straight razors have always been interesting. However, I have never jumped into actually trying to use one or making one.

I must say that the restoration work on here is great. I love that people are repairing and restoring old blades and putting them back into service. Well done! It is kind of sad though that there are not any sources for good quality pre-made razor blade blanks. I looked and couldn't find any. I guess that I will just try making my own.

It is nice to meet you all and I thank you for the help and advice that I have already gleaned from this site and for all of the future help that I am sure to receive.

Welcome to the craziest and most satisfying forum around. You being in eastern WA should get acquainted with Glen (gssixgun) in Idaho. He is a super fine restorer and honer of razors, a wealth of information, more than willing to share knowledge. If he doesn't know it, he will know were to find out in a jiffy. He has honed a number of razors for me and each time they come up in my rotation I know immediately it was him that honed it. Also check out Bruno's Blades thread.

Dan welcome to SRP. Plus one to what earcutter had to say, just attended a meet up at Geretts (deighaingel) a couple of weeks ago and it was great as I am new here too. Met some very good people and learned an incredible amount in just two days, never thought I'd be shaving in front of others but you can get over that quickly. I think the next meet is going to be in the fall I encourage you to go if you can, until then look for a mentor in your area and spend some time one on one your learning curve will shorten up accordingly.

We do have meets up here, you just missed the Spring meet in Yakima, and we normally have a Fall meet in Spokane but we have been talking about doing that in Seattle (area) now and then..

Not sure how close ya are to me but if you want to meet over Coffee or a Beer and talk Steel and Stones just let me know
