I recently changed from disposables to double edge razors, and have decided to try straight razors before too long. I found a nice Otto Fromm Eagle at a junk store that I got professionally honed, but the scales broke. The guy told me it would be good enough to try and make sure I liked using a straight before I needed to replace the scales. Next up is a strop and a hone. Then I'll be ready to try it out.

Hi and welcome. Where did the scales break. Can you still use the razor. Might be a idea to get a second razor before a hone by the sound of it. Good luck and any questions feel free to ask

Hope this pic comes through. Nice looking razor, thought I was lucky and found a good blade and nice scales.
Does anyone make custom scales with USMC logos or designs? I googled some and found out about the Clauss USMC razors, but not custom scales.
Now that I know about the Clauss USMC razors I am looking for one! Can't wait to get one!

Well, found an antique mall with at least a dozen straights, and quite a few DE's and SE's. Most were overpriced, especially the straights, but I got a nice Sheffield by George Butcher, one of the Shakespeare blades. It doesn't look too bad, and the scales are great on it. I've got some lapping film and a strop on the way, so in a week or so. Picked up a couple of DE's as well. Found a nice gold Aristocrat in the box, it's a 1946-47 model in great shape, and a decent Blue Tip from 1957. Fun day, wish I could have spent more time and money.
