Hello everyone. I discovered the wonderful world of SR shaving after debating it for years. My mom sent me a straight razor that belonged to my great grandfather. I sent it to Larry at whippeddog to be honed up. That was 2 months ago and I have jumped into the hobby with both feet. It has been an adventure so far. Looking forward to all the great help and advice I can get here.

Two months ago on a hone,,,, have you contacted him since?
First off Mean Pig is still open. I have been stropping the razor. The checkbook has done a few backflips so far. I picked up some hones and stones yesterday. I took a motorcycle ride to Dans Whetstones in Pearcy, Ar and picked up some high quality black noviclite stones. Well worth the money.

Welcome aboard! You're quite fortunate to have an heirloom razor to shave with. If you haven't already, you may want to consider picking up a beater razor to learn honing on. Take good care of your great grandfathers.

I tried to upload a picture but I couldn't because its on my phone. It's a Dubl Duck spec No 1. I have purchased some beater razors from ebay to learn honing. I wouldn't want to butcher a razor that is not replaceable.

No it is Peacy Arkansas about 10 to 12 miles west of Hot Springs. Getting to see the operations was really neat. I talked to Dan for about 30 minutes he is a really nice man. Getting to get my hands on the stones was very nice. 2 of the stones I picked up that were black stones had the slightest imperfections so I recieved them at discount price. To me the experience was worth it and to know I have some of the finest stones in the world is gratifying too.
cool I haven't noticed Peacy but will look it up in September come hot springs rally ,, id like to see it myself tc

Figured it out.
I head out that way a lot for work. We have three stores in Hot Springs. I haven't had the pleasure of getting out to Dan's but I plan on it. It's possible tc and I could ride out that way one weekend.:shrug:Quote:
