welcome from a londoner! a Kropp is on my list of razors I would like to try! We would love for a photo to go up in the SoTD section when you've a chance
lb1,
Welcome and hello from Hastings :)
FYI - there is a chap in Nottingham (Gary Haywood) who is both a barber ('The Barbers Shop' in Sneinton Dale) and a skilled straight razor user & honer :)
He is a member here at SRP.
Have fun :)
Best regards
Russ
Had my first shave with a proper straight this morning using my newly acquired Kropp 6/8. Having a few shaves under my belt with the CJB certainly helped me with angles but I've still got plenty of work to do there. I found the Kropp to be quite noisy as it sliced through my stubble which is in stark contrast to the CJB which is almost silent. I'd heard not to expect the edge of a straight to be anywhere near that of the Kai blade in my CJB but I didn't think it was too far off. I did a WTG and XTG pass which yield not bad results. Probably the equivalent of a two pass shave with my DE. Incidentally with all my shaves with the CJB and the the straight today I've had no irritation at all even though the aftershave sting has told me that in some places I'd been particularly poor! Somewhat amusing as before the CJB and straight my DE of choice was a Feather AS D2 because of its mild nature!
Lastly, this stropping malarkey is no where near as easy as it looks. This is one area I really need to practice on.
P.S. Once my other razor is back I'll post pictures of both my razors :D

Thank you for that. Seems my grip was off looking at that video.
Glad to hear you had a good first straight shave!
Thank you. My second one was even better. It's funny as when I was using a DE I pretty much ignored the advice re skin stretching and angles as I could just buff problem areas. I'm seeing just how important the correct angle and stretching the skin really is now as well as proper beard mapping. I managed a much closer shave in two passes than yesterday. Still not on a par with a 3 pass DE shave but not far off. I'm sure once I get my angles nailed down it'll improve ten fold. Having no irritation is a massive bonus as well.
