Well hello domenique from swakopmund in namibia... welcome aboard and hope u enjoy your sunday morning... or maybe it's noon already over there. ..
Welcome Schieri to SRP. You've found a forum devoted to find the best in shaving. Our members use almost all the different shaving tools available. There are even separate sections for the devotee's of that particular item. Let me stress the need to read the wikis and view the videos. A lot of information is exchanged in the the beginner's posts. And, if an answer is not found in your research, ask, ask, ask. All the Mentors and members are always willing to share their knowledge and expertise.
I will also stress, that as a beginner, it is highly important to take it slow or you will overwhelm yourself and lose interest. Basics first. Learn to build a good lather, effective stropping, learning (we call it mapping) your face for as irritant free shave as possible and simple blade maintenance. Learning to hone your own razors from bevel up is a task (and for some a big one) best left till you have a goodly number of haves under your belt.
Again, welcome to a forum of gentlemanly interchange spiced with humor and at times pure silliness, as you learn to shave and get to know an international membership of kindred spirits.
Hello, Dominique, and welcome to Straight Razor place. Yes, as others have noted, please do some research here, and beyond that, ask questions. Everyone will help and guide you. Straight razor shaving is a lifetime experience so embrace the ritual and you'll never look back. We're delighted to have you with us.
Damn you and your speedy responses richard :).
Hi domenique, and welcome, as has been said, take things slowly, very slowly, no, very very slowly. I would have abrowse through the beginners and shaving with a straight razor forums, you will see a lot of similar posts regarding issues with early shaves, not that we arent willing to share, but more that you will be at least somewhat prepared.
Have you also ordered/ do you own a brush, strop, and soap and or cream? They are the absolute basics you are going to need. If you already have them, you can practice making good lather and also learn a good stropping technique using a butterknife or similar. If you dont have a strop yet you can practice on a strip of pretty much anything that is as wide as whatever strop you are getting, just clamp it in a bulldog clip and hang her up. Dont use your actual razor for this :)
Dont expect miracles at first either, steady, comfortable progress is good progress.
Anyway when you get your gear let us know what you dont know and we will certainly try our best to help you out.
Welcome and salutations, what they said, ditto.
Welcome to the SRP community Domenique - you will find it a most helpful and inclusive group - the Internet and WWW at its very best.
Smooth Shaving..
Hey and welcome to the forum. There are a few members from SA here too. Might be time to set up an African section in the international forums section. Take it slow and enjoy the ride.

What type of razor did you order from Straight Razor Designs? Did you purchase the razor by itself or did you get the complete set (razor + strop, etc.)?
