Hi to all,
I've been following this forum for a while and also other local and international forums. I've been a DE shaver for almost a year and couple months ago I acquired a vintage straight to try how it works for me. First straight shave was not good needless to say. From that time to now I've used my straights once a week but I decided to use only straights from now on. I hope I can learn so much from your experinces. Excuse my English by the way, it's not my primary language.

Two things the Turks do really well. Tea and a good Turkish shave. They do other good things as well but those two really stand out to me. Welcome to SRP and enjoy you're new found journey.It only gets better from here.:chapeau

I wish I can post good traditional pictures from my country but it is so difficult because every shop is full of foams gels and disposable cartridge razors. We only have Arko soap and creams and couple of other small brands that is all but I will try :)Quote:

Welcome! It would be wonderful to see pictures from inside a traditional Turkish barber-shop. There are vids on Youtube, but seeing things from your perspective would be really unique. I have thought about doing the same here in Athens, but traditional barber-shops are only just making a comeback. They are few and far between and difficult to locate if you don't know where to look. In any case, I can only imagine that Istanbul, given its geographical location and history as a cultural cross-roads, must have a storied background in the world of wet-shaving!

Welcome! You could make extra money shipping Arko to the US. It goes for about $2 or $3 per stick here.

Hello mate, Turkish barbers use "Denatured Alcohol-http://www.amymittelman.com/methylated-spirits/" as a fuel for the stuff. They wrap some cotton around a metal stick and drop some alcohol I mentioned above and use it until it is not flammable anymore(alcohol completely evaporates). I don't recommend though it can be dangerous. I will ask my barber for further info don't try immediately :)Quote:
