Hello all!
I have recently converted to wet shaving. I don't know what took me so long. While I do not yet have a straight razor, I hope to have one within the next month. Currently I have converted to a DE razor and love the difference. I have been gathering/building my shaving collection; brush, soaps, aftershaves, bowls etc., and am finally enjoying shaving.
This site has been awesome and I look forward to future discussions with everyone.

Welcome to Straight Razor Place. Anytime is a good time to start with the straight razor. Before you buy your first razor, however, please do the research here, and ask questions so that we can guide you in your purchase. Stay away from cheap stuff. Buy a quality razor, whether vintage or new production, making sure it is shave ready, and buy a quality strop.
That isn't to say you have to spend a great deal of money, especially as you have soaps, brushes etc. Just stay away from the junk, for value for money a vintage razor is probably a better bet.Quote:

I have been doing a lot of reading on here, research on the net, and watching a lot of youtube videos to the extent that my wife is already sick of hearing me talk about shaving. Little does she know it only getting started :rofl2: I have two or three vintage razors in mind. They are: Vintage 11/16 'Kukri' No. 190 Straight Razor,5/8 Wester Bros 'Manganese Steel' Straight Razor, and a 9/16+ Peaso No. 25 Straight Razor. All of these are ready to shave and have been restored.
I have read that to start out a good size is a 5/8 with a rounded tip, yet all of these fall close to this. Any thoughts on these razors. Who knows maybe I will get them all. Sooner or later I need to have a stable of razors that I can switch things up with right:hmmm:

I am not familiar with Kukri. I have had Western Bros and Peaso and found them to be good razors.
