New in perth
Hello. I've just bought my first straight razor. I have been trying to start doing this for years but have never commuted to a real razor. I've tried the replacement blade types but never felt comfortable. So looking forward to developing a new skill

Welcome to SRP. What kid of razor did you end up getting?

Hi, assuming that you mean perth W.A. and not perth Scotland, there are a few of us about, as crackers said give a hoy on the down under forum and that will get their attention.
I am not around much as I work fifo on a movable feast of a roster at the moment, but will try to help where I can. Eddy79 is down Gosnells way and is a pretty helpful fellow.

I have just bought a vintage razor that's been refurbished it's an 11/16 Silver stall .I've tried the cheap replacement blade ones but they never feel solid. I'm in canning vale in perth western australia. Now I'm looking at strops. It seems it's not just a razor and off you go now I'm looking a soaps.

G'day and welcome to the forum and straight shaving.
-
There is always something to buy if you're up for it. Ed Hewitt had set up on the lighter side where as I seem to be the opposite with the most by far. Im not far from you in Gosnells so if you need help give me a shout. Was the razor shave ready. There isn't really anywhere in Perth to get a razor honed except for 1 barber that I know of. Others do it but have bad reviews.
-
Yes its shave ready. Wipe of the oil and it's ready to go. I got it from a guy in Victoria. He restores them.
-
Yes its shave ready. I like to buy things. Looking for cool stuff on the Internet is one of my pass times. It's one of the draw backs of working from home.
-
My wife works? from home and we always seem to have packages arriving. I keep threatening to take the credit card away.

It can become a habit that's hard to break.you start watching things and wanting them. I'm currently looking at a strop razer and scuttle. Plus two motor bikes .another strop from a local manufacturer. Pity I'm a bit cash poor at the moment
-
Who is the local strop maker i haven't heard of anyone
-
A guy is making them in armadale. They are the paddle type. I missed the strop on ebay today. It had a scuttle strop and razor included. The joys of Internet shopping

Now I know who you mean. Not sure how that works for razors. They have been mentioned before but no one has brought one yet. Just checked his Gumtree ad and if it has smooth blemish free surface it should be fine. Might be an idea to visually inspect before purchasing. Let me know how you go
