New member from NJ
Hi all,
Just wanted to take a minute to introduce myself; I'm Jon and I live in northern NJ. I've been DE shaving for a while, with my go to set up being my Merkur Heavy Slant (39C, I think?), Rooney Heritage brush, and Penhaligon's cream and ASB. I'd found myself bored with shaving after using the same setup for so many years and recently got bitten by the straight bug - I've been straight shaving now for three weeks and am on my fourth razor already! It's reinvigorated my interest in the ritual and taken a toll on my wallet as well lol, as I sent my Rooney out for repair (years of face lathering and mashing the brush down killed the hair, and the handle had two cracks in it) and purchased a Thater 4125/2 two band and Simpsons Chubby 2.
My favorite razor so far is my Thiers-Issard 6/8 with a Spanish point and ram's horn scales; beautiful to look at and it shaves like a dream. Knock wood I haven't nicked myself too badly since the first few days (first day was nick free, but it also wasn't a great shave) and I'm now getting great shaves. Still working on that upper lip though - talk about a difficult angle!

Hello, John. Welcome to Straight Razor Place!
Sounds like you have some nice gear already. Enjoy!

Hi Jon! Welcome aboard!
My significant other is on her way home with our son from Vernon, NJ....her place of origin and where her parents and siblings still live.
Sounds like you're off and running. Be diligent and mindful of what you're doing. I found that my nicks and cuts didn't come until a while into it. And that was from overconfidence...I didn't pay close enough attention to what I was doing.
It's nice to meet you. Good luck. Lots of answers to any of your questions here. And slow and steady wins the race - so take your time on that upper lip. And any other trouble spots.

Hi Jon & welcome to SRP. The TI is a nice razor to shave with, I have a few. There's plenty to learn here so just click on Library above & you will find a lot of info in there. You can also just browse the whole site in each category if you want. If you have any questions please ask on the forum or feel free to pm me. We'd love to see some pics of your straights. Here are some of mine TI's. The first one is an older Medaille Argi 69, 9/16" blade, The second one is a newer 1937 Special-Coiffeur 6/8" blade, & the last one a newer "Sheffield Silver Steel" 6/8" with a worked spine. I love the red wood scales too. I have a couple others somewhere.

Ask and ye shall receive... bad iPhone 6 photography. Sorry for the pic quality; fortunately, camera acquisition disorder is not one of my afflictions... The first pic is my Dovo Best Quality 5/8 round point with black acrylic scales - my first blade and nothing fancy, but the one I hold responsible for this latest addiction. Next to it is my recently acquired Robert Williams 7/8 spike with cocobola scales - just got that yesterday and it shaves like a dream. It's perfectly balanced for a big blade.
Second pic is my Dovo Grenadille 6/8 round point - it's African Blackwood and I really love the spine work on it. Gives a great shave as well, I just wish it had some jimping; next to it is my favorite of the bunch, the TI 6/8 spanish point. The spine work and jimping are great on this, and I love the look of the light colored ram's horn.
Last pic is 4 of my 5 brushes; my Rooney Heritage 2 is out for repair after several shower mishaps and nearly 8 years of face lathering (perhaps too roughly). From left to right, they're a Vulfix Idon'tknowwhat in silvertip - my first brush, which I haven't used in forever, mostly because of it's small size - it's a good travel brush though; my Simpsons Chubby 2 in silvertip; Thater 4125/2 in two band, which is my favorite of the bunch - super soft but still some backbone to it; and finally, my least favorite, a new Rooney Style 2 size 3 in silvertip. Not sure why I dislike the new Rooney so much; perhaps because it's not a Rooney Heritage?
Edited: forgot the razors in the bottom pic; on the left is my Merkur Long Heavy Slant 39C, which I DE shaved with for years before getting into straights, and which I still use for the occasional touch up when I miss a spot on my upper lip, and on the right is my Vintage Blades razor for Mach3 cartridges, which I use for head shaving. Given enough time, I'll DE my head, but the Mach3 is good for it when pressed for time.

Those are nice! I love your TI with the Spanish point!
