Hey Sharpies!!!
Hello! I just signed up to access member only resources. I started shaving with SR's over 10 years ago and soon began collecting them. I have about 200 and once organized my then collection in an online publication "Clarence Razor" at https://flybare.wordpress.com There, I made my best attempts to evaluate the items under Stewart & Ritchie guidelines. I used to think that I was alone, being the only man I know who shaved that way, let alone collected used un-shaveable blades!!
Now retired I want to sharpen my knowledge and improve my lot, so it's nice to find a place with such company and experience. My parallel is that while most everyone has fished, few can properly fish for trout, and fewer yet tie their own flies. I love the art and history that such humble and fragile tools represent. Hope to have some productive banter here!!!

Hello, Flybare. Welcome to Straight Razor Place.

Hello and welcome to the club. If i had 200 SR's i think my wife would kll me. lol;)

Welcome Flybare. Nice to have a seasoned shaver join the group. I'm sure that we will learn form you as much as you hope to learn from us. There are a number of history buffs active and willing to answer questions, expand on limited knowledge, exchange knowledge and encourage deeper knowing of the field.
We also look forward to your contributions in the practical area of straight razor shaving. Our truly new to the field members are like sponges and we gladly enjoy saturating that sponge with tried and tested knowledge.

Thanks to all for the fine welcoming!! I really appreciate the resources here at SRP. Now I don't dare list anything on ebay without consulting the database and threads. Especially to the founder for my much better understanding of proper beveling, honing techniques, pyramid procedures and stones. If I were not a stubborn sort, I would plug in a Norelco instead of doing it myself. So most of my understanding has come after years of trial and error. Ironic that now 'reading the book' it finally comes together. I like being able to represent an offering as ready to shave.
I started collecting SR's as an interesting and fairly low cost hobby, reflecting centuries of art, history and technology. Bonds may have been a better investment, but I enjoy keeping history alive by restoring, maintaining and sharing their magic. In my listings I attempt to frankly display all aspects of the item. My only concern about ebay e.g. is that the market does not seem to sustain the values that I would think as a serious collector. Like Antiques Roadshow meets Pawn Stars!!
