Rick from Arkansas
Hello everyone. I'm a noob to all of this. I look forward to learning from the many years of experience here. Found my way here by a YouTube video. I bought my first straight razor on eBay yesterday and can't wait for it to get here. Depending on its real condition, I may try and hone it myself. My cousin has all the high dollar stuff to do it. I wonder how mad he will be if I cut his strop? Lmao.
Im a career fireman of 13 years. Married with children as well. Glad to be here.

Welcome to the forum. You are probably way further ahead just getting your cousin to hone the blade for you. It can be a little tricky getting a proper shave ready edge. Let us know how it goes.

Hi Snead. That razor should serve you well. Your cousin has the hones, but do you know if he knows how to use them?

very good point does your cousin know how to use the hones? does he shave with a straight? otherwise send it out you will not know if its shaves ready if you don't ,, its not like you've been shaving with a straight all your life. one of the most important aspects of starting is a properly honed blade and then learning to strop. read aas much as you can from the library and ask questions , and if your close enough to Memphis I can help you along on some tips that ive learned over the last 2 years good luck ebay really isn't the way to start but maybe you got lucky tc

Welcome to the Forum!! Looks like you made a wise choice in your first razor!! +1 on the comments above making sure to talk tl your cousin and see how his journey is going then decide how to proceed... Straight Shaving and Honing are related but very separate and equally long/challenging journeys... Starting off with a SR that is truly "Shave Ready" gives you a benchmark and helps to avoid back-tracking.
You are well on your way... Enjoy the journey!!! :)

Hi and welcome. It's all about a shave ready razor. As said if you're cousin isn't experienced send it out and know that you will be starting right. Good luck and any questions feel free to ask

Nice razor! Make sure that it is shave ready before you try to shave with it, as the others have said.
Here is a link to the SRP Beginners Guide to Straight Shaving. This will help you with the things you need to know before you begin your experience with a straight razor.
Here is a link to the SRP Library. This will help you with pretty much anything relating to shaving with a straight razor.
