Hello everyone I have always wanted to shave with a straight and just now getting around to actually buying one and trying it out. I have not shaved yet but I have ordered my first straight... I plan on making a new post whewhen I finnaly receive it and documenting my eexperience. The razor I ordered was a whipped dog so nuthing to special but hopefully it does what I need it to lol.
Any tips or tricks would be much appreciated.
Where are you in Iowa? If you would like some help in person or just to look at other toys, I live in Rochester but still have a house in Iowa City. If you can get near either if those places, I can help you out in person.

There's an offer you shouldn't refuse , Ron,s been around for a while and one on one help will put you ahead of the learning curve. Sounds like a good plan, no sense in spending a lot of money till you find out if you like shaving like this. Do you have a strop yet , if so read up in the library and practice. Tc

I got a poor man's strop from WD .... Figured I'll probably cut it trying to learn how to use it so no use getting a good one for a few weeks
That is something I could use some information on .....
what is a good starter strop on the cheaper side I don't need anything fancy lol

Use your poor man till it won't work from any bad stuff happening ,my hen if budget is an issue SRD. Has sone inexpensive , but very good strops that you can always change the leather if you damage or if you want to try a different material. Tc

Had another good shave today still not up for a fools pass but besides that getting better on the neck and chin!
also I guess I'm stroping correctly ....still have a sharp blade lol !!
Excellent! It will get better every time. It takes a couple of weeks for the brain to re-wire for a new task involving eye-hand coordination, but you will continue to improve for a much longer time than that.
It has been a lot better than I could have hoped for already!!
Welcome and congrats to wet shaving. I spent a day with Utopian and learned much. Then I had to unlearn my bad habits from going it alone. If you can find the time to meet with him and others it will cut down on the learning curve. This gets you better consistent results. Listen to what these folks say, not always how they say it. They are all great guys things dont always translate perfect from email to verbiage.

If you can get together with either mainaman or utopian. Both are heavy duty on the experience side. Your learning curve will be shortened considerably.
