Greetings from sunny Calgary
Good day guys, my first venture into the shaving forum and putting a post together. I've wet shave all of my adult life having started with safety razors as a kid when I left home to join the RAF at 16. As the years went by and cartridge razors took over, I am ashamed to say I too switched to the more convenient method. I complained about constant increases in prices but did nothing.
A couple of years ago, my son told me his wife had given him a straight edge razor for a birthday present and the pilot light of interest was ignited. Finally about a year ago I did a lot more research and decided to give this straight edge shaving thing a go - jumped in and bought a Dovo 'Colonel Ichabod Conk' razor and other 'bits' to get going. I remember my first attempt, placing the razor close to my face and gripping onto the bathroom floor tiles with my toes..... I managed a single pass down either side of my face, even trying to use my left hand for the left side of my face. One nick and I 'bottled it', switching to my safety razor.
Thats how it went for a while, a little bit more straight edge, a little less safety razor. About a year after my starting with the straight edge, I use nothing else - nothing else provides the close shave or the feeling. I have become a lot better with my left hand, but still far from expert. The whole art of shaving has taken over and it is not just a daily 'task', it is an enjoyable time of the day that I enjoy and share with my collection of 6 razors..........., with more on the way.
I've really enjoyed the little I have read on SRP and look forward to reading and contributing more in the future
