Been using a safety razor for years now and I'm just getting into straight razors.

Welcome to SRP. You have found some interesting things already I'm sure. The Library is the best resource for learning starting with the Beginners Guide & working from there which I'm sure you have already laid eyes on so just keep going. Also click on the SRP logo in the top left corner & it will bring you to the main page where you can also find some interesting topics. I'd be willing to bet you have been to these places but just in case, there you go. You will of course need a strop which is probably the most important tool to have for a straight razor. You can practice with a butter knife at first to prevent cutting it & also dulling the edge of a shave ready straight. If you do accidentally cut a strop, you can snap it out or glue it down with super glue (CA) or rubber cement.

Wayne, I was Royal Engineers for 14 years, living near Hameln. Got a cheap one at the moment but got a friend to tune it up. loving the "zen" type state you enter whilst shaving with a straight.
Think I'm going to have to invest in nice one for Christmas.
If you want to spoil yourself for Christmas, drive down to Solingen and visit Boker and Revisor. You'll be like a kid in a sweetshop! If you haven't already found it, try the Revisor website. Doesn't matter if you have a 'cheap' razor. As long as it shaves, it's a good one. How's your stropping?
I've never been to Hameln. I understand it's a stunning place? I served in Berlin, but have also been to Bielefeld, Munster and Duss. I love Germany and wish I lived there.

Now that would be spoiling myself, I have been drooling over Böker and Dovo´s for the last couple of days. The "Cheap" razor has been sacked as after reading up on here it passes none of the tests. but the plus side is i have used it to practice my stropping!
Tomorrow I am getting an upgrade from Joesph Rodgers and sons. Nice piece of sheffield steel. cant wait to give it a test run.:medvl:
Hameln is very nice but has changed a lot (sadly for the worse) over the years.
