New & Ready to Read!
Evening All,
I've decided to give this straight razor malarkey a go. I've always had an unhealthy obsession with edged tools, collecting knives and recently got lost to the world of knifemaking.
Naturally I now want to get extra close to the razor's edge! Currently reading up on how to get started, pitfalls, traps for young players etc.
Can't wait to learn yet another hobby!

Welcome!
The beginner forum is the place to start. Read about picking your first razor; you need something with a truly shave ready edge. The classifieds here is a great place to pick one up.
Straight Razor Designs also has nice strop/razor combos, where the strop is discounted to almost nothing. Upgrading to a 3" strop will ease the learning curve.
Watch a lot of videos, ask a lot of questions. Remember to keep a light touch and just shave the cream; the hair will come off, too. Pressure is not your friend.

Hello, Muddy! Welcome to Straight Razor Place.
There is an active Aussie contingent here. Hopefully some of them will be able to give you some tips/pointers specific to down under. From what I understand, shipping into Australia is high-priced.

Welcome aboard!
Moonshae summarized everything for you.
Take your time and enjoy the journey, don't hesitate to ask questions.

Here is a link to find fellow Aussies in Queensland.
Getting some hands on help is very rewarding.

Thanks for the warm welcome.
I'm currently looking at a restored 6/8 Bengall. I'll be sure to post pics of whatever I get.
I have an extra wide russian Dovo strop already.
Brush & soap researched & ordered.

Hi and welcome from the west. I don't know where exactly you are but there are a few guys in Qld who have had meets and sure if able one would be happy to meet up. Bengalls are a good shaver just make sure it's truly shave ready from someone reputable. Drop a line in the down under forum as well. Any questions feel free to ask.

Hi Muddy & welcome aboard. I missed this one somehow but been pretty busy also. Moonshae said what you need to do. I believe he meant to say the Beginners Guide in the Library here but you may have found it by now. Take your time, be patient & absorb all this great information & you will be okay.
Good luck my friend.
Sorry Moonshae, not trying to insult your intelligence. It happens to me. Just when we try to think of something, it seems we can't sometimes.
