Hello from Alaska
Hi everyone from Alaska. My name is Paul Baker.I live and work in Alaska .I'm a veteran and a longtime knife maker.I'm also a ordained pastor and take care of pastoral needs in Prudhoe Bay were I work as a heavy equipment operator and work a two week on and two week off rotation.I've loved straight razors since I was a boy and started using them exclusively a couple of years ago.I recently tooled up to make razors and have been primarily working on my grinding skills and I think I will have some ready for consumption my next time home. This is kind of a new chapter for me and a new challenge for this old knife maker.Any way love the forum God Bless and keep em sharp !

Welcome. I worked there for two years '95 and '96 as a machinist and heavy equipment operator.......Cat dozer. My first year up there I didn't shave. I wanted the "Alaska" look for when I came home. Believe me the following year my straight razor was in my luggage.

Welcome Paul. I think you will find a nice home away from home here.

Benz it's a shame, they shut all the machine shops down in the facilities.Lots of tools sitting idle. They contract all machine shop work out to contractors now.I be walked through a few of them and just drooled.

Hi Paul & welcome aboard. You may have opened a new chapter & perhaps not in the Bible rather a new chapter to your life! Great to have you here, there is a wealth of information on here, even about making razors. We would be very happy to see some of your work.
Good luck my friend.

Thanks Ed ! As a custom knife maker I see a lot of new makers and watch there progress. This is fun being the new kid on the block so to speak.I'm usually making bowies or hunters and working with something new is refreshing.Attachment 223786Attachment 223790
