Greetings from Queensland Australia
Hey all.
Just wanted to drop in here and say hello and introduce myself.
I have been shaving for 22 or so years, with probably 20 of those, up until last month, with an electric. My father uses electric as did his father before him so the men in our family have known nothing else. I am sure my grandfather used a straight and DE too but he was an early adaptor.
So just under 5 weeks ago I decided to scratch an itch that had come and gone for many years - to try traditional wet shaving, with a DE. As is apparently often the case, the bug bit and bit hard. Within a week I had several orders for soaps, brushes and razors. Fast forward a month and I had worked out which blades I like, go my technique pretty good experiencing BBS and no irritation most of the time. Then I had a thought; These straights look bad as, and don't seem to be that bad when it comes to upkeep. So I PM'ed a member of the Aussie Forum (predominately DE) I have been frequenting from the start asking if he had a straight he wanted to sell me.
Come forward to Monday I received a nice 1950's 6/8 Tanifuji and have been running the thing over my face these past three mornings. Things are going well, but I have a lot to learn so here I am, banging about SRP forums looking for anything that will help me and maybe in a while I might be able to help others.
