Grande prairie ab
Ive been shaving with a safety razor for a while now and got a cheap shavette SR from my barber which ive been using exclusively for several months now.
I am looking to pick up a good sr and origionally was going to get new, then swayed to restored, then back to new and decided on thiers issard from frendrehan, but now in thinking restored again due to the elegance and pride placed in the scales and metal.
At any rate i was going to paruse the classifieds but i see there are restrictions...
Currently im trying to understand the fine details of sr care- honing and stropping, what strop to get, oils for the strop and blade?
Id love to get together with a mentor and learn, but i dont believe there are any in my area after a quick search on here.

There is a bunch of guys in Alberta, quite a few in Edmonton. Welcome tot the forum. I don't think that Fendrihan hones their razors. If it doesn't shave well PM me and I will give you a couple of places to get it tuned up in Edmonton and Calgary. There is likely a meet this spring in Beaumont. Happy shaving!

There is no restrictions on you buying from the classifieds. Tc

Hi and welcome. Whatever razor you decide just make sure it's hand honed. The strop wont need oil just pslm rubbing. The blade if you decide to oil will be fine with mineral oil like baby oil. Good luck and any questions feel free to ask

Welcome to SRP!
The solution is simple, you buy a new one and a restored one!
The beginner's section the library has a good bit about care and maintenance in it, be sure to check it out.

If you make it to Edmonton, PM me.

A big welcome from the bald faced prairies!
Take the opportunity to visit with your nearest hone meisters, as such a visit/meet is worth it's weight in gold!

Where does a guy find info on a the meeting? Might be worth the time to come down. Is it more a swap meet? Thinking maybe i should hold off on buying one untill then.

Usually there will be a thread created for an Alberta based meet up, probably in the next couple of weeks. The guy most likely hosting it this year has a large vintage collection and normally doesn't mind selling some. It's a good way to get started.
