Default Hello from Rochester, New York, USA

I just took the plunge and purchased a Dovo Best Quality Black 5/8".
Since I have a goatee, I will probably avoid many of the difficulties encountered by those who are new to this blood sport.
I am looking forward to the delivery of my new razor and strop.

Knowing that I don't know squat about using a straight razor, it looks as if I have found a good place to start.

Welcome. Love your quote. Here are two members in the NY/NJ area that are available for closer info. PM both and see if they know of a qualified member nearer to you that you can sit down with and have a couple of one-on-one sessions. Goes a long way on the learning curve. Only thing I want to stress is do not even think of honing your razor(s) for at least a year while you learn the ins and outs of SR shaving. Even if you have honed knives, they are NOT the same.

I was initially thinking about it, but then I figured that since I am only shaving half of the surface area and I get a free hone from SRD with my purchase, I've got nothing to worry about for a fairly long time.

Hi and welcome aboard. Think that there is a mentor local to you so check out the mentor's list. Will dramatically cut the learning curve.

Small world! I met quite a few people from Wisconsin in Rochester, must be easy for us to transplant over there...

The snow was a pain, but they take care of it better than over here. Plus, people aren't as stupid with the first snow over there!

    Howdy Eddy!

I saw two names: one on Long Island and one in NJ.

I'm WAY on the other side of the state...
If you try to go north out of Rochester, you get your feet wet in Lake Ontario.

Speaking of, you may want to check out the Greater Toronto razor meet...

It will definitely help you alot to get hands on teaching from some of the guys. Some of the ones attending are very frequent contributors here and quite skillful.
