    Default Back again

Recently moved and lost all my straight razor strops and brushes so I went to a double sided safety razor it gave me a decent shave but I missed the routine of straight razor shaving. I was able to find my razors thankfully so I'm now looking for suggestions on what strops and brushes to buy and also thinking about getting some honing stones.

Hello and welcome back, glad you found all your stuff I can not recommend a strop as I really only have one it is a SRD 3" latigo. It is a great strop and fair priced from what I can remember. Far as hones, depends I suppose on what you are looking to do. Are you going to be setting bevels and restoring blades, or just touch ups? Pretty much the bread and butter hones are Norton 4k/8K. You can do a lot with these 2 stones and an 8K edge is very comfortable. Well glad you are back in the game, welcome again from a fellow Iwegian

That's no problem. There are several ways a guy can go, I'm not a pro homer but I'd imagine 8k or 12k would do just fine for touch up. I do know there are more options than I have listed as far as what's best I can't say. You can even do chromium oxide (razor grade) on your strop or a balsa strop. Some one with more experience would guide you better than I in that arena.

Welcome back. Probably best bang for your buck is the naniwa 12k for maintenance. SRD have nice strops and are well made.

Welcome back!! Definitely +1 on Naniwa 12k... Works great as a Barber Hone and also can be one in an eventual arsenal of a complete set of stones.
