Hi there guys..!
Hi there fellow shavers..! My name is Auke Halie. Yes it may sound like a very strange name but where i live in Amersfoort (near Amsterdam), Holland it is very common. I have been shaving with a straight for only one week so far, and i am still learning so any help and tips are welcome from you pro's. If i make some mistakes in my English sentences I apologize in advance.. But when you try it in Dutch you will make some mistakes also... I am also a member of a forum in Holland but i wanted to know and read about the experiences overseas. Plus maybe we can help eachother out with some products or so in the future.
With kind regards,
Auke Halie

Welcome from across the pond.

Welcome, Auke-I love your country! My wife and I spent a few days last June with her sister's family in Nieuwkoop (near Amsterdam). I have never met more friendly, industrious, healthy people than the Dutch (and I've been a lot of places). Have fun here! Aaron

Welcome to the forum, Auke. You will find members here from all corners of the globe, and do not worry...your English is just fine. If I can offer one tip it would be to teach yourself to shave using both hands if possible. It may be tricky at first, but you will come to appreciate that skill.

Welcome from SE Washington State USA.
While this age old art takes time to learn, once semi mastered it is quite rewarding. Patience is of the utmost importance.
It's a long strange trip but well worth the journey. :y
A properly honed razor is an absolutely must to get a good CCC shave (Clean-Close and Comfortable) I have a friend in Germany who may be able to help you with honing.
IF you would like, I'll get a hold of him and see if he can PM you.
Enjoy the ride! :tu

Hi Aaron,
Nice to hear that you enjoyed youre stay in the Netherlands..! June is a good month to visit, better than Januari or Februari. I've been in Nieuwkoop several times for my work and it js a nice place to be. Great to hear you say that we are a friendly and kind people..! We are used to hear that we are a little bit to straight forward. And not all of us are healthy, but yes we try.. We cycle a lot even trough bad weather and to and from work. I am planning to visit the USA for this year.. But I need to find out where i want to go, and if Pres Trump will let me in.. I'm not a criminal but still a foreigner... Greetings Auke

Hello Halie, and welcome/welkom.
As Dutchman you surely come sometime in Belgium, so if you need adresses of shops in Belgium (Antwerpen ore elsewhere), don't hesitate to ask me. In English, French or Dutch, geen probleem daarmee.
