Thread: Hello from Barcelona

My wife and I made our trip 42 years ago. We both came to love Barcelona and Madrid as well. I could, in those days, sit out on benches along the Ramblas and enjoy a cigar. Our first dinner in Spain was a wonderful paella.
Politically it was a bit chilling as the streets were being patrolled by well armed Army soldiers who did not look favorably on back packing American "hippie" tourists.Bob

Yes it was part of those times. Dictator Franco died a few months after we had left. It was very tense times for the Spanish people. The dictatorship was ending and, I believe no one knew what the reaction of the military was going to be. The King of Spain wanted the monarchy back in power and that was not going to happen. Things seem to have worked out in the end.
