    Default Greatings to all

Hello to all, been wet shaving since the '70's. Got interested in straight razors about a month ago. Managed to learn all I needed to know about honing a blade to turn my old razor into a butter knife. Not an easy task.

Looking to improve my skills in that area as well as stopping the Parkinson Symptoms that seem to crop up each time I get near my throat with that blade. My wife makes all my shaving soap.

Hope to meet others from the Indianapolis area as well.

Welcome to SRP! Plenty of help here available to beginning honers. From your butter knife analogy, it sounds like you haven't set the bevel properly. That's 90% of the task, and if done poorly, the rest of your honing session is a waste of time. You will get better help by providing some more detail there.

Comfortable shaves come sooner than later with a bit of practice. I actually get more nervous with the blade under my nose than against my throat. You might also nick your ear lobes a few times if you're not careful.

    Welcome aboard.

You will get there in good time. There's no need to learn everything at once. If you do there is nothing to look forward to

I remember having the trembles early on! Strangely enough, my non-dominant hand was more steady, so that was when I decided to use both hands. The trembles quickly left, and I haven't looked back since. Welcome to SRP.
